Annual Spelling Bee for Literacy
Have fun and raise money for Project Literacy, too!
Bring a cheering section of family and friends. Wear matching hats, shirts or a company or organization logo for publicity for your company or organization.
The entry fee is $65 for each team and entry forms are available at any of the Boone County public libraries or from the Project Literacy office (218 E Washington Street in Lebanon).
(The spelling bee is usually held as part of the "Back to the Fifties" celebration on the square in Lebanon.)
Here's how it works:
- Each spelling bee team consists of three spellers.
- One speller from each team will be writing at a time.
- The announcer will pronounce the word, read it in a sentence, and then pronounce it again.
Round One
- One speller from each team will write the 15 words and three tie-breaker words.
- The speller has 15 seconds after the word is pronounced, to write, review and correct the word on paper.
- At the end of Round One, papers will be collected and scored as Round Two begins.
Round Two
- The second spellers will write the 15 words and three tie-breaker words. (Words are different from Round One.)
- The speller has 15 seconds after the word is pronounced, to write, review and correct the word on paper.
- At the end of Round Two, papers will be collected and scored as Round Three begins.
Round Three
- The third spellers will write the 15 words and three tie-breaker words. (Words are different from other rounds.)
- The speller has 15 seconds after the word is pronounced, to write, review and correct the word on paper.
- Results will be posted as soon as scoring is completed.
Note: If total team scores reveal a tie, tie-breaker scores will be used. If another tie occurs, there will be a sudden death contest.
