  • Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library’s Food for Fines program - Area families in need can benefit from overdue books thanks to Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library's Food for Fines program. With area food pantries experiencing a drop in donations, the library will again offer to clear $1 in overdue fines for every item dropped off for Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. Zionsville residents may donate nonperishable food, cleaning supplies and toiletries at the Circulation desk through December 20. Sample-sizes and expired items will not be accepted.   • Communities of the Zionsville Area for Better Government - Eagle Union Zionsville Reorganization Committee information.
  • GED Classes are held at Lebanon High School (Room I-20) from 6-8:30 pm on Mondays & Wednesdays. Classes are ongoing throughout the school year with new intake testing the first Monday of each month. For more information, visit the Boone County Learning Network website.

* Through December 26, 2008 - Model Railroad Display in the Youth Department at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. A wonderland village featuring two S-scale and two O-scale model trains, plus a trolley, will be on display through Christmas. The detailed, double-layer platform covers over 100 sq. ft. in the youth dept. Trains will run on a daily schedule: Mon.-Thur. 10-11 a.m., 4-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m.; Fri.-Sat. 10-11 a.m., 3-4 p.m.; Sun. 3-4 p.m. The trains and village have been generously loaned to the library for the third consecutive year by Lee Mehan, husband of Children's Librarian Dawn Mehan.

* Thursdays & Monday, December 4, 11, 18, 22, 2008 - Childbirth Education Class from 6:30 - 8:30 pm in the Witham Memorial Hospital Denger Conference Room. For more information, please call 765-485-8120.

* Saturday & Sunday, December 6 & 7, 2008 - Holiday Stroll and Gift Fair at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday and 1 to 5 pm on Sunday. Families can begin their holiday shopping at the Friends of the Library Holiday Gift Fair, open throughout the Holiday Stroll weekend. Local artisans will be on-hand with a selection of their handcrafted gift items available for purchase. More info and schedule of events.

* Saturday, December 6, 2008 - Kids Carol Sing at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library from 1-2 pm. Youth of all ages are invited to raise their voices in song while caroling through the library. Participants will add a warm, joyous tune to the Holiday Stroll activities, and enjoy cookies and punch. * Saturday, December 6, 2008 - Kwanzaa with Patricia Payne from 2- 3 p.m. at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library in Computer Lab B. Patricia Payne, Indianapolis Public Schools Multicultural Center Director, will present the history and traditions of Kwanzaa, a celebration of family, community and culture. Kwanzaa will be observed by families December 26-January 1. All ages are welcome and snacks will be served. Preregistration is suggested. * Sunday, December 7, 2008 - Congregation Sharrey Tefilla 3rd Annual Holiday Bazaar from 10am - 4pm at Congregation Sharrey Tefilla (308 5 W. 116th St. Carmel, IN 46032). This fun-filled event is open to the public and admission is free! Don't miss the local talents of 30+ area crafters and your favorite vendors! Come and see the variety of items such as jewelry, gift baskets, hand bags, soaps unique crafts and much more. Donations are being accepted to Ovar'coming Together, Indiana's ovarian cancer education and support resource agency.

* Sunday, December 7, 2008 - The Melchior Marionettes Christmas Show from 1:30-2:30 pm and 3-4 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. The entire family may enjoy "Christmas with the Marionettes" when presented by the Melchior Marionettes. Known for their hand-crafted puppets and interactive shows, the troupe will perform in the Mayfield North and South program rooms as one of many Holiday Stroll activities.

* Sunday, December 7, 2008 - Hanukkah with Cantor Judith Meyersberg from 3-4 pm in Computer Lab B at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. Cantor Judith Meyersberg, from the Bureau of Jewish Education, will explain the historical significance of Hanukkah and how it is celebrated by Jewish families today. Also known as the Festival of Lights, the holiday will be observed from sunset Dec. 21 through sunset Dec. 29. All ages are welcome and snacks will be served. Preregistration is suggested. * Sunday, December 7, 2008 - St. Nicholas Visits Children after Advent Lessons & Carols Service at 6 pm at St. Francis Episcopal Church (1525 Mulberry Street, Zionsville, IN). Music of Ord, Nestor, Schweizer, White, and others. Through hymns, anthems, readings, and instrumental music, the service of Advent Lessons and Carols prepares the worshipper for the Christmas celebration soon to come. The handbell, treble, and adult choirs of St. Francis offer this sacred service to both St. Francis parishioners and the Zionsville community. After the service, we invite all children to hear the legend of St. Nicholas, the 4th century Bishop of Myra who inspired the traditions of Santa Claus and Father Christmas. St. Nicholas himself will visit the children, spreading good cheer and goodies. Make sure to bring your cameras! A regular reception also will follow the concert. The concert is free and open to the public; however, free will donations will cheerfully be accepted. For more information about this event, please call A. * Monday, December 8, 2008 - Do-It-Yourself Presents from 3:30 - 5:30 pm in the Olive Huffman Room at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. Create handcrafted holiday gifts for friends, family, or teachers. All materials will be provided for students in grades 6-12. * Monday, December 8, 2008 - Indiana Brass Quintet 10th Annual Christmas Concert - usher in the Christmas spirit with a festive concert of holiday favorites at 7 pm at St. Francis Episcopal Church (1525 Mulberry Street, Zionsville, IN). The hour-long program will feature arrangements of well-known Christmas carols and a short sing-a-long. Members of the quintet play in the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Carmel Orchestras. Bring the entire family and enjoy the spirit of Christmas, brass-style! The concert is free and open to the public, with cheerful acceptance of free will donations. A reception will follow the concert.

* Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - Books Over Coffee from 12-1 pm in the Lora Hussey Program Room at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. Take a break, bring a sack lunch, and join fellow book lovers to talk about favorite authors. Beverages and treats provided. Bring a friend. Preregistration is not required.

* Wednesday, December 10, 2008 - A Tall, Tall, Tree from 4-4:30 pm at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. Children 5-8 can enjoy a reading of tall tales before creating their own edible tall, tall trees. Preregistration begins Nov. 25. * Sunday, December 14, 2008 - Live Nativity 2008 at 6:30 pm at St. Luke's United Methodist Church (100 West 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260). Experience the Christmas Story of Jesus and his parents as it comes to life on St Luke's sanctuary stage. Complete with Joseph with Mary on a donkey, camels and wisemen, shepherds with their sheep, and angels lifting voices on high. Featuring Randy Gustavson as the Musical Director. Sponsored by Family Fellowship Ministries and St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

* Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - Trains! Choo Choo! from 10-10:30 am at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library. Young train enthusiasts will be immersed in train-themed songs, stories and imaginary play during this interactive program for children 1-2. * Friday, December 19, 2008 - The Lebanon Public Library invites to you an afternoon Christmas Tea in the Ralph Stark Heritage Center on at 2 pm. Cynthia Ogorek from the Indiana Historical Society will display a collection of silver pieces and discuss Christmas celebrations of the Victorian era. Her program is: Romancing the Spoon; the Victorian Love Affair with Silver. Participants are invited to bring along their own silver pieces to share in the presentation.
